Micky Adams started his career as a footballer
with Gillingham and in 1979 he signed his first professional contract for
the club. After winning England Youth honours and appearing in 92 games for
the Gills, he made a transfer to Coventry City for a fee of £75,000. Adams
was a firm fixture in the first team and scored nine goals in 90 league
games for the Sky Blues before joining Leeds United in 1987. After making 73
league appearances for Leeds he moved for £250,000 to Southampton and stayed
there for five years. While at The Dell he made 174 first team matches. He
was then given a free transfer and he had a brief spell at Stoke City before
joining Fulham as a player-coach in 1994. He made his debut in a 2-1 loss at
Torquay United and went on to end the season with 11 goals in 25 games.

In February 1996 Micky was appointed Fulham's player-manager, and at the
time was the leagues youngest boss. Due to injuries his appearances were
restricted in 1996-97. However he still lead Fulham to their first promotion
since 1982 and after his first season in charge received the Third
Division's manager of the year award . However after all his success at
Fulham he decided to leave in 1997 to take the reigns at Swansea City. After
only 13 days at Swansea he resigned finding that the money promised for new
signings was not available. He later managed Brentford, took a role at
Nottingham Forest as assistant manager, promoted Brighton and Hove Albion to
Division 1 with virtually no money and is now manager of Leicester City.
Leicester have just been promoted back to the Premiership under Micky's
guidance.
