Joe Bacuzzi the father of David, who played for Arsenal,
Manchester City and Reading, began his playing career with Isthmian League
club Tufnell Park before turning out in a number of 'A' teams for Arsenal.
In 1935, Bacuzzi joined Fulham as an amateur and turned professional a year
later. He made his Fulham debut in a 4-1 defeat at Chesterfield in January
1937, playing at right-back, whilst his only other appearance that season
was at left back in a 1-0 defeat a Barnsley. Bacuzzi scored two goals during
his Craven Cottage career and netted his first the following season when
Fulham defeated Luton Town 4-1. He was ever-present during the 1938-39
season, the last league season of football before the Second World War
broke, and appeared in 104 wartime games for the club. After the war
football resumed in 1946-47 and Bacuzzi was again the club's first choice
right back taking his total of League and Cup appearances to 299 before a
terrible knee injury ended his playing career at the end of the 1955-56
season. He was then appointed as Fulham's trainer, and stayed at Craven
Cottage in that role for a further 9 seasons.
